The Surron Ultra Bee ships mostly assembled. Unlike the Light Bee X — which blinks a fault code over a diagnostic cable — the Ultra Bee shows a numeric code on its dashboard. This guide covers the crate build, how to read those codes, and how to clear the most common faults. Built from the official Ultra Bee owner’s manual.

Out of the Crate

Surron ships the Ultra Bee mostly assembled: mount the front wheel, set and torque the handlebars, fit the mirrors and plate bracket on street trims, and charge the pack with the Surron charger. Motor, controller, battery, and brakes are installed and routed. Inventory the box and inspect the frame, fork, and wheels for shipping damage — photograph anything questionable before you build.

First-Ride Setup Checklist

Charge to 100% first.

Full charge lets the BMS balance the cells and gives an honest range baseline. Use only the Surron charger.

Set tire pressure.

Lower for off-road grip, higher for street range and tread life. Set both ends before you ride.

Torque the critical fasteners.

Shipping vibration loosens hardware. Check every fastener in the table below with a torque wrench — to the manual’s figures, don’t eyeball it.

Check and bed the brakes.

Firm bite point, not spongy. Bleed after any line/caliper work, then make 20–30 progressive stops to bed the pads before riding hard.

Learn the TRIP-mode code trick.

The Ultra Bee shows a stored fault as a number on the dash — switch the dash to TRIP mode to read it. Practice now so you can read a code trailside later.

Function-check before you send it.

Kickstand up, throttle dead until ready, both brakes tested at walking pace, kill switch cuts power. Then ride.

Torque-Critical Fasteners

These are the fasteners that hurt if they back out. The figures below come straight from the Ultra Bee owner’s manual torque table — set each one with a torque wrench, because guessing is how parts end up in the dirt:

▲ READ Brake caliper and rotor bolts are the ones to respect most. Under-torqued, they vibrate loose under braking heat; over-torqued, you strip the carrier or warp the rotor. A torque wrench is cheap insurance — use one every time, and add thread-locker only where the manual calls for it (the brake disc screws are one).

How the Surron Ultra Bee Reports Faults

The Ultra Bee reports faults as ER- and AL- codes on the dashboard — switch the dash to TRIP mode to read a stored code. That’s a different system from the Light Bee X, which flashes its code over a diagnostic cable. The codes split into two groups: ER-0xx / ER-1xx faults from the battery (BMS) and motor controller (MCU), and AL-1xx alerts like a side-stand or tilt trigger. Read the number, then match it to the chart — a throttle fault is ER-114, a CAN comms dropout is ER-129, an MCU over-current is ER-101.

The 6 Most Common Faults

1 · Bike is dead — won’t power on

Likely
No charge, battery switched off, or a key-switch / connector fault. On the dash this maps to a key-switch fault (ER-133) or battery low-voltage (ER-019 / ER-110).
Fix
Confirm the battery is on and charged, re-seat the main connector, and check the key switch. Charge fully and retry before assuming a hardware fault.

2 · Cuts out under hard throttle

Likely
MCU (controller) over-current (ER-101) or the battery sagging into low-voltage protection (ER-110) — both cut power to protect the system.
Fix
Release the throttle to idle, then roll back smoothly. Charge if it happens at low state of charge. Constant cut-outs at full charge mean the controller or battery needs inspection.

3 · Powers on, but throttle does nothing

Likely
Throttle signal protection (ER-114): the throttle wasn’t at idle at power-on, or its cable is shorted or won’t return to zero, so the controller locks the motor out.
Fix
Power off, make sure the grip snaps fully closed on its own, then power back on. If it persists, inspect the throttle connector and signal wire.

4 · Stutters, jerks, or runs rough

Likely
Motor position-sensor or locked-rotor fault (ER-104 / ER-105) — a bad signal between motor and controller, or the wheel or motor jammed.
Fix
Power-cycle first; some events auto-clear. Inspect the motor phase and Hall connectors for a loose pin, corrosion, or water. If motor and wiring test good, suspect the controller.

5 · Down on power — won’t reach top speed

Likely
Low charge, a thermal roll-back — MCU or motor over-temp (ER-107 / ER-108) — or a power limitation (ER-144) or riding mode capping output.
Fix
Charge the pack and confirm you’re in the higher-power mode. Let it cool if it only happens after sustained hard riding, and check the throttle reaches full signal.

6 · Random cut-outs with no dash data

Likely
CAN communication error (ER-129), or a dashboard comms fault (ER-000) — the battery, controller, and dash have lost their data link, often a connector or moisture issue.
Fix
Re-seat the battery and controller connectors, dry out moisture, and inspect the thin communication wire for a pushed-back pin.

▲ STOP If the dash points to an MCU sampling or internal controller fault (ER-100 / ER-106), a MOS error (ER-043 / ER-044), or a BMS board fault (ER-030 / ER-031) — or a fix calls for opening the controller or replacing the BMS — stop there. That’s dealer and warranty territory.

Why won’t my Surron Ultra Bee turn on?
Confirm the battery is switched on and charged, then check the key switch and the main connector. On the dash a dead bike usually maps to a key-switch fault (ER-133) or battery low-voltage (ER-019 / ER-110) — charge the pack and re-seat the battery connector first.
Why does my Ultra Bee cut out when I hit the throttle hard?
Hard acceleration can trip an MCU over-current (ER-101) or the battery can sag into low-voltage protection (ER-110). Release the throttle to idle, roll back smoothly, and charge if the pack is low; constant cut-outs at full charge need the controller and battery checked.
How often should I bleed the brakes on my Ultra Bee?
Bleed when the lever feels spongy, after any brake line or caliper work, and roughly once a season on a hard-ridden bike. If you’ve fitted a FactoryZ caliper or line kit, bleed and bed the pads in before your first hard ride.
