Surron Light Bee Shift Lock Install Guide | FactoryZ

FACTORY Z INSTALL INDEX

Tools Needed:

  • 12 mm wrench
  • 5 mm Allen key

Read This Before Starting Your Install:

The shift lock is a foot peg bracket that mounts to the left side of your Surron Light Bee where the shifter would sit on a gas bike. It gives you a solid place to plant your foot for wheelies, balance points, and slow-speed control. If you've been hunting for more leverage on the back end, this is the add-on that makes it happen.

The install itself is about as simple as it gets on a Light Bee. Two tools, two bolts out, two bolts in, and you're done. The kit comes with the shift lock bracket, the peg, and all the hardware you need. The bracket has four peg-mounting holes so you can dial in the peg position that matches your foot and riding style before you bolt it to the bike.

This guide is for any Light Bee owner who wants to install the shift lock at home without overthinking it. You don't need to pull bodywork, drain anything, or touch wiring. If you can run an Allen key, you can knock this out in a few minutes and be back on the bike the same afternoon. Grab the kit from Factory Z, use code Zilly at checkout, and follow the steps below.

Install Steps:

  1. 01

Lay out the kit and tools

Open the box and confirm you have the shift lock bracket, the peg, and two bags of hardware. The peg bag has a bolt, a nut, and an end cap. The bracket bag has two bolts and two spacers. Grab your 12 mm wrench and your 5 mm Allen key. That's everything you need.

  2. 02

Pick your peg hole on the bracket

The shift lock bracket has four holes for the peg. Hold the bracket up to where it will mount and figure out which hole puts the peg where your foot naturally lands. There's no wrong answer here, it's personal preference.

  3. 03

Bolt the peg to the bracket

Put the peg bolt on the end of your 5 mm Allen key and feed it through the peg, lining up with the hole inside. Run the bolt through your chosen hole on the bracket. Thread the nut on the back side and tighten it down all the way now with the 12 mm wrench. You won't be able to reach this nut once the bracket is on the bike, so get it tight here.

  4. 04

Cap the end of the peg

Take the end cap from the peg bag and push it into the open end of the peg until it seats. That finishes the peg assembly.

  5. 05

Remove the two factory bolts from the bike

Go to the left side of the bike where the shift lock will mount. Using the 5 mm Allen key, back out the two bolts in the mounting location and set them aside. You won't reuse these, the kit bolts replace them.

  6. 06

Pull the spacers off the kit bolts

The bracket-bag hardware ships with the two spacers slid onto the two bolts. Slide the spacers off so you can install them separately behind the bracket.

  7. 07

Mount the bracket to the bike

Run one bolt through the first hole on the bracket, drop a spacer onto the back side of the bolt between the bracket and the frame, and start it into the bike by hand. Do the same with the second bolt and spacer in the second hole. Getting both started by hand keeps the bracket aligned before you torque anything.

  8. 08

    Tighten the bracket down

Once both bolts are started, snug them down with the 5 mm Allen key. Go nice and tight. Give the peg a wiggle to confirm the bracket isn't shifting and the peg is solid. That's the install.

Common Mistakes:

  • Mounting the bracket to the bike before tightening the peg nut.

Fully tighten the 12 mm peg nut while the bracket is still in your hand. You can't reach it with a wrench once the bracket is bolted to the frame.

  • Leaving the spacers on the bolts and trying to install them that way.

Pull the spacers off the bolts first. Run each bolt through the bracket, then seat the spacer between the bracket and the frame before threading in.

  • Picking a peg hole without test-fitting first.

Hold the bracket up to the bike and put your boot where it would sit while riding. Choose the hole that matches your foot position, then commit and torque it down.

  • Only hand-starting one bolt before tightening.

Start both bracket bolts by hand before you tighten either one. This keeps the bracket aligned so both holes line up cleanly.

FAQs

How long does the shift lock install take?

A few minutes. It's two bolts out, two bolts in, plus assembling the peg onto the bracket. Most riders are done in under 15 minutes.

What tools do I need?

Just two: a 12 mm wrench for the peg nut and a 5 mm Allen key for the peg bolt and the two bracket bolts on the bike.

Do I have to remove any bodywork or plastics?

No. The shift lock bolts to existing mounting points on the left side of the Light Bee. You only need to remove the two factory bolts at that location.

Which peg hole on the bracket should I use?

There are four holes so you can set the peg where it feels best under your foot. Test-fit the bracket against the bike with your boot in riding position before you commit, then tighten the peg down.

Why do I have to tighten the peg nut before mounting the bracket?

Once the bracket is bolted to the bike, you can't get a wrench on the back side of the peg nut. Torque it down fully during peg assembly so it doesn't loosen up on you later.

Do the spacers go in front of or behind the bracket?

Behind the bracket, between the bracket and the frame. Slide the spacer off the bolt, run the bolt through the bracket, then drop the spacer on before threading into the bike.
